Buoyancy Compensators
Diver problem I need help!?
A scuba diver at a depth of 25 m produces a neutral buoyancy 5.0 L blowing air in his buoyancy compensator (an air jacket). He swims, and then to a depth of 56 m. Use the fact that the product of pressure and volume of gas is a constant to find the new volume of the air jacket. Tip: Using the ideal gas law, P1V1 = P2V2, so we can understand the decrease in volume when the pressure increases. Note that pressure as a function of depth is given by P = 1.01 x 105 Pascals + Dgh. The answer will be in L. Im trying to understand how to do that, so if you could see it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Use your equation for P & V, V2 = [P1/P2] * V1 = V1 * (1.01E5 +1000 * 9.8 * 25) / (1.01E5 + 1000 * 9.8 * 56) = .532 * V1 V2 = 0.532 * 5.0 = 2.66 L
