Masons answer, please..What is your distress signal.?
Something that a fellow Mason would say to alert other Masons that he is in danger. If there is such a signal, but it is not for public knowelege, please say so.
There is a distress signal, and you guessed it. We're sworn not to give. That doesn't mean it's a secret, as you can find it in exposes and books. However, indvidual membesr keep it a secret as symbol of our integrity, honour, character and respect for the Fraternity.
The "sign" is more of a symbol in ritual, though it has been used in times of dire distress (i.e.war). In some cases, men fighting in opposite sides of the war would do every thing legal to help them regardless of political belief, religious creed or orgin of race. The sign reminds the members that though men are separated by many factors, those worthy men (weather formally masons or not) who improve their characters to aid humanity are worthy of our aid in time of distress despite the glaring dangers present. We as Masons look for what unites mankind instead of focusing on that which divides.
